Transition to Further and Higher Education

Succeeding in higher education is not simply a matter of being clever enough!

Many students are not prepared to take charge of their new responsibilities and a new way of learning. For many students it is the first time they need to take care of themselves without their parents providing ongoing structure.

A successful transition to higher education takes serious consideration and preparation.

Timely preparation is even more essential for students who have learning differences such as Dyslexia, DCD/Dyspraxia, Autism Spectrum Disorder or AD(H)D. Developing self-awareness, skills, learning strategies and new routines are crucial for a successful transition.

CAN-DO OT offers OT support and coaching for adolescents and adults who want to explore their strengths and develop academic and life skills. Or for students/adults who have already decided to start college.

OT support & coaching can be provided at all stages of the transition, including the preparation year(s), the start of first year and beyond.

Topics can include:

* Choosing a course or college
* Dealing with anxiety & sensory overload
* Developing social skills
* Health & wellbeing
* Coursework planning
* Balancing study & social life
* Developing daily living skills for living away from home

Different options are available: one-to-one support, paired work (e.g. come in with a friend) and small group programs.

People who are considering further education are also very welcome to discuss support options of course!
